Installation And Trenching Of 91 Inter Array Cables At Dong Energy's Race Bank Offshore Windfarm Site Successfully Completed.
This project, which is considered to be DONG Energy’s most complex to date, is located at a challenging worksite with strong currents, shallow waters, widely varied seabed soils, and of course, consistently strong winds. DeepOcean with an extensive track record in subsea power cable installations on critical infrastructure projects, was able to successfully complete the installation and burial of the 91 cables with an approximate overall length of 106km. The scope also included route engineering, pre-lay grapnel runs, and cable protection system installation.
Some key project highlights included:
- Highly productive operation with the Edda Freya vessel to consistently complete cable installations in 6 hours
- Powerful and accurate ability of the T2 Trencher, operated from the Volantis vessel, to deal with abrupt changes in seabed materials and achieve target burial
- Efficient operation of the Deep Helder vessel to provide very quick and high quality post trench survey results
- Productive working relationships between DONG Energy’s various representatives and DeepOcean’s project team enabling quick and effective decision making
In addition to the tracked T2 Trencher, DeepOcean also buried cables using the highly capable free flying UT1 Trencher, also operated from the Volantis.
The success with the above operations confirms that DeepOcean remains particularly suited to challenging projects in tough environmental conditions.
